Product Description: Unlike the Green Lanterns who preceded him on Earth and throughout the galaxy, Kyle Rayner was given no training or guidance in the use of his power ring. In this new collection, Kyle decides to seek the guidance of the greatest heroes aliveThe Flash, Batman, and Wonder Womanonly to find that he is already worthy of the name hero.

Green Lantern: Baptism of Fire by Ron Marz is the story of the start of Kyle Rayner's adventures as Green Lantern, and the mistakes he makes.
Quite lacking in confidence at the beginning, as he is just an artist kid suddenly given a super weapon, it takes some working with other heroes and encouragement for him to start to get the hang of it.

i just finished this book and i found that it is a good book to get some back ground on the early years of kyle's green lantern adventures.it's funny how far kyle has come along.i missed the early years(having read the title the last two yaers or so).i found that the book had a good start to it but then it slowed down in the middle.the ending how ever was great!kyle finds out what it takes to be a hero while in a great battle with grayven. this book is deffently worth checking out!

Baptism of Fire collects most of the early Raynor GL issues. In them, you'll see a cocky, headstrong kid begin to grow into the responsibility of Green Lantern. Most of these stories owe themselves more to the classic Spider-Man stuff ('with great power comes great responsibility')than the Hal Jordan ('I have a magic ring and I play space cop between beers')era.

Why?
Why did DC allow a hackneyed writer to kill off one of their greatest Silver Age heroes and then replace him with a Gen X slacker named Kyle Rayner?
This book once again proves that it was an ill-thought idea. It is dull, unimaginative, and completely lacking in the drama and character development that made Hal Jordan (and Alan Scott before him) such a great character.
Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern? Just say no!

the book starts off with kyle as a mischevious titan and ends with kyle finding himself as a true hero, and future justice leaguer. guest staring the old flash (wally west), sentinal, batman and robin, wonder woman and adam strange each page is more intreging than the previous. in closing if you have ever questioned your role in life and finally found it, then you will relate and admire kyle raynor's quest for greatness.
