Night Stalker Review

Just watched the premiere of Night Stalker which was based on the 1970's classic Kolchak Night Stalker TV series. This is one is wee bit different, but not too bad. Colchak's wife it turns out was killed by some supernatural monster. This event sends Colchak on a mission to seek out every strange or bizarre murder in hopes of one day exposing the wierd stuff that is going on out there to the public.

The best scene of the premiere was one that if you blinked you might have missed. It was an extremely subtle tribute to the original series. The original Kolchak was put in the newsroom apparently using CGI. I wonder how long it will be from Darren McGavin the actor is brought on the show as a guest in flesh and blood.

The monster of the week was in itself not all that exciting to me. The wolf men or whatever was never really revealed as to it's true origin. We don't know if they were wolf men or just wolf monsters. I was interested in finding out what these monsters were. Perhaps, they will be revealed in a later episode. I just didn't get the sense they are going to ever reveal anything. X-files of which this show will also be compared to was excellent, but forever I will be wondering to myself how I watched all those mysteries that never really ended up anywhere. Years of watching the X-files and I have no clue what the very last episode was about. Hopefully, they don't drag the mysteries on forever in this series and end up like the X-files did. One season or two is plenty for any mystery. Let's start giving more closure to these types of series, please. So take my advice Kolchak producers and writers, let us know who or what killed Kolchak's wife in the first couple of seasons and go on to another mystery.

The show has some promise. I hope they are able to make this one last longer than the original which has drawn so many fans over the years.

The show's tagline "What if everything you feared was real?" also shows great promise. I guess it depends on what they eventually bring to life to creep us out.
