So, the bathroom in your house is a little small. That’s okay! But small bathrooms can be a nightmare if the space isn’t utilized correctly. With some design changes and maybe even a minor bathroom remodel from bathroom remodelers in Milwaukee, you can maximize space without having to empty your wallet for an expansion.

Working with small interior spaces, whether it’s a bathroom, bedroom, or any other room that’s smaller than average, just requires a bit of design know-how to make them look larger and feel much more comfortable. In this article, we’ll explore some design tips for a small bathroom that you can use to make the most of yours.

Opt for a Larger, Floating Vanity

Going for a larger vanity may seem counterproductive to the goal of making more space in your small bathroom. However, a bigger vanity will provide ample counter space for all of your bathroom essentials, eliminating the need for extra shelving that will fill up space. Not only will a large vanity offer more counter space, but it will also make the bathroom appear more spacious by minimizing how many furniture items you have in there.

Not to mention, if you make this large vanity a floating option, you’ll be opening up even more space. Floating vanities are mounted directly to the wall, and they don’t go all the way to the floor or have legs of any kind. Instead, you have open space between the bottom of the vanity and the floor, roughly 12 to 18 inches in most cases.

This open space can be left alone to make the bathroom look bigger, or you can utilize it with storage baskets to house more bathroom essentials.

    Choose a Lighter Color Palette

If you choose to do some bathroom remodeling, use a lighter color palette when selecting paint for the walls, vanity, and any cabinetry, as well as the tile, tub, and toilet colors. Lighter colors will brighten the bathroom and make it feel more open. Not to mention, bright, light colors promote a feeling of cleanliness, which is crucial for a bathroom.

    Add Some Houseplants

Houseplants may take up some space, but they will help your small bathroom look more open and inviting. Schedule a plant delivery and add a small houseplant or two on a floating shelf for a beautiful, decorative addition that adds to the comfort of your washroom as well.

    Ditch the Shower Door

Whether you have a tub and shower combo or a walk-in shower, consider nixing the shower door and opting for a shower curtain instead. Shower doors look gorgeous, but they take up a lot of room, especially if it’s a swing door and not a sliding door. If you choose a shower curtain instead, you’ll open up much more space in your bathroom and make it more comfortable to use.

    Reduce Clutter

Let’s face it: Most of us have way more things in our bathrooms than we need. This includes furniture and plug-in appliances. So, try to reduce this clutter to open up your space. For example, instead of having shelves and cabinetry stacked on the floor, choose floating shelves to hold some of your things.

Consider reducing how many plug-in appliances you have as well. For example, do you really need three different straighteners in there or that Bluetooth speaker? What items can be stored elsewhere to be pulled out only if you need them? This thought process will help you maximize space and make your bathroom more comfortable.

    Add a Window

If possible, one option that requires some construction is adding a window. Nothing opens a space up better than natural daylight. Having a window in your small bathroom can make the room look double the size of a bathroom without a window.

So, if your bathroom can have an extra window, consider adding one.

    Small Bathrooms, Big Spaces

With these design tips, you can maximize the space you’re already working with to get an open, spacious, and comfortable bathroom. Of course, not all of these tips will work for every bathroom, but experiment and find the right fit for you.
